Finally: Our students have been examined in their final exams for the first year! The results have been impressive and we could not be more proud of these young, talented and ambitious women.
By the end of July, we marked the end of the 2015/16 academic year for our Hotel Operation Level I students. The last semester was full of activities for the students and the staff. To round up this first year at the Hospitality Institute, our students´ work was tested and evaluated in the last few weeks with the IT, English and Hotel Operation Level 1 exams.
The IT exam aimed at assessing the student’s skill in using the basic Microsoft Office programs with a special focus on Microsoft Word and Excel. The English institutional assessment analyzed the students’ knowledge on vocabulary, small talk with guests and staffs in the simulated areas as well as English grammar. Thus, after having evaluated the first round of results, students with lower grades got a chance to review their work and improve their results in a second round of testing. It is believed that such measures are in line with the continuous assessment method employed in different government universities, which shall empower the students.
The knowledge of the Hotel Operations was first assessed in an institutional and second in a national exam, called COC. The COC exam intends to accredit a candidate who demonstrates competence in a unit which is part of the comprehensive education at PROJECT-E’s Hospitality Institute. In order to obtain the National Occupational Qualification Certificate, a candidate must showcase competences during the assessment session, covering all the identified units of competence for a particular qualification level. This year’s COC exam assessed the first year student’s qualification in housekeeping, food and beverage service and porter service. According to the results, more than 90% of our students passed the exam at the first try. This achievement magnifies the remarkable work made by the student.
To commemorate the successful academic year of 2015/2016, PROJECT-E organized a ceremony to congratulate all of its staff and students. By taking into consideration the results of each and every subject, a certificate of appreciation and gift has been provided for the top five students.
We would like to congratulate our students and staff both in Addis Ababa and Europe for the hard work and successful completion of this academic year. Keep on the good work in the upcoming second one!
