Today we want to introduce to you Alina Hemm. She was part and Head of the Public Relations team of PROJECT-E. Enjoy the read!
In three words, how would you describe your experience as a volunteer at PROJECT-E?
Inspiring, enriching, #lotsOfFun
What was your most memorable experience with PROJECT-E?
My time in Addis Ababa, working at the Hospitality Institute, getting to know the Ethiopian PROJECT-E staff and the students was definitely one of the most memorable experiences with PROJECT-E. Also, our Strategy Weekends in Hamburg and Munich were amazing, as we got the chance to grow together within Team International and put together all our energy and ideas to contribute to PROJECT-E’s future success.
What do you think sets PROJECT-E apart from other „international aid“ projects?
For me, PROJECT-E has a unique energy thanks to the outstanding team members in Ethiopia and Europe, all united in their dedication to women empowerment. Every single person I have met within the team was truly committed to PROJECT-E’s visions and goals – and this is what really drives PROJECT-E’s work and makes the project so successful.
Why did you have to leave PROJECT-E?
After I had finished my master’s degree, I decided to travel for several months. Having no reliable access to the internet is not the best condition for working remotely.
What are you doing right now professionally?
I am working in a consultancy dedicated to driving progress in global development.
Do you still follow PROJECT-Es activities on Social Media or are involved in any way?
Of course, I am your most loyal follower!
What did you learn from volunteering at PROJECT-E?
So many things! I learned to work independently, how to work in a remote team, and how to take responsibility for a department. And of course, I got many insights into how an international NGO works and successfully implements its agenda.
Do you have any suggestions or critique for PROJECT-E, something Team Europe can or should work on?
I think, PROJECT-E should continue its Strategy Weekends, as it allows Team International to grow together and get to know each other in a non-virtual way. Also, volunteering in Addis is a really rewarding experience and I think PROJECT-E should try to motivate people to go there as working at the Hospitality Institutes gives you a great understanding of PROJECT-E’s vision and goals and makes you feel even more connected to the project.
Why would you recommend someone to volunteer for PROJECT-E?
If you believe in education and women empowerment and look for an amazing team with passionate people, here is your chance! PROJECT-E gives you the amazing opportunity to develop new professional skills, further your personal development, and make an impact! And you get the chance to go to Addis, meet our great Ethiopian colleagues, PROJECT-E students, and see the amazing project in person. And you can eat Injera, lots of yummy Injera.
