Diary of a volunteer | Nanja Boenisch

volunteer

Entry of 29 October 2020.

It is probably quite common, not only as a young person, to be constantly looking for meaningful activities, such as educational opportunities and jobs; and to be asking oneself again and again how one can contribute to a, to put it bluntly, better world.

Where can I get involved? How do I best bring my talents and interests to bear? How is all this compatible with my studies, my training, my work? Every time I carry out tasks for PROJECT-E, it’s so nice for me to have the feeling that all these questions have been answered.

Just today was another typical PROJECT-E working day for me. As always, I started by checking the inbox to keep up to date and to get an idea of which topics could be discussed in more depth during the team call.

At every meeting we update each other on the things we have been working on over the past week, and have an exchange of ideas. I had already thought about my update for this week. Also, an important part of the preparation for the call was to make coffee and drink it to wake up the brain cells responsible for speaking English… Immediately afterwards the call with the PR team took place. Apart from the fact that it’s always super motivating to interact with those who I cannot meet in person, it’s always quite helpful in terms of content to get organised once a week with all the team volunteers and get an overview of everything the PR team is currently working on. My tasks for today were quickly decided: a Team Thursday interview was to be translated into German for the PROJECT-E blog, and I was to get creative and write an article.

After the call I immediately got down to work, and when I finished the translation, I contacted some members of Team Addis by email to get information for my article. I did the rest of my research on the internet, and I found a lot of exciting material. Almost every time I start researching for a blog article, I deal with things that I haven’t necessarily come across before. But I learn from the research alone, it’s really fun! I haven’t quite finished the article today, but the deadline is next week. This will be a classic case for the next team call, I’d say!
