Due to the spread of COVID-19 in Ethiopia, public life has visibly slowed down and measures have been implemented by the Ethiopian government to insure safety. All schools and colleges had to be closed as of March 16, affecting as many as 26 million public school students. This also affects the PROJECT-E Hospitality Institute; hence, we would like to better inform you about the measures relevant for PE and how we are tackling the situation.
What measures have been taken by the PEHI?
For the safety of staff and students, staff is working from home, all training activities at the PEHI and current student internships in our partner hotels have been suspended. Nevertheless, particularly social workers, but also the academic coordinator, are in close contact with the students.
How does PE ensure continuing the education of the students?
Basic information exchange occurs via text messages, so students are able to continue learning despite the current situation. Staff is occasionally at the PEHI to print, distribute and collect learning materials, so that students can pick up material and drop off assignments at the institute.
Furthermore, masks were given out to staff and homemade sanitizer was distributed to all students. The Austrian Development Agency (ADA) kindly reached out to PROJECT-E and offered to help with hygiene equipment; we are currently working out the details.
We are in close contact with the institute and will keep you updated whenever there is any news or any changes.
