An integral part of the education the young women receive at the PEHI is the internship component. During the internship period, the students will stay at different hotels for six weeks as part of the Housekeeping, Laundry and Food & Beverage departments.
Having a disability, or in better terms being differently abled, means that an individual has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits their ability to do/participate in life activities. In an ableist world where it often is assumed that everyone present is able bodied, it can be extremely challenging for people who are differently abled to ask for and receive any kinds of accommodations.
When do the paths of a German girl and an Ethiopian girl of the same age intersect? Not very often. Especially not if there are 8000 kilometres between them and their distinct lives. For either of them it would be near to impossible to imagine being in the other person’s shoes, even for just a day.

Alem is the much-beloved cook at the PROJECT-E Hospitality Institute, and she was lovely enough to take a break from making lunch for all the students and the staff members to answer a few questions that may explain why the food she makes is so scrumptious.
