September is a wonderful time in Ethiopia and particularly the Ethiopian month of Meskerem that runs from 11th or 12th September to 10th October marking the beginning of the Ethiopian year. The countryside is lit up with the masses of bright yellow Meskel daisies and more sunshine flickering through the rain clouds, and it brings with it all the promise of the New Year.
Having started as a volunteer for PROJECT-E on the ground, it was the perfect time to visit the project again as part of the Management Board, discuss recent developments and brainstorm on strategic directions.
We are proud to announce that our first year of students at the PROJECT-E Hospitality Institute have successfully graduated in Level 1 and 2 Hotel Operations. The first ever graduation ceremony for our Institute was held on the 1st of July 2017 on our premises.

PROJECT-E was part of the largest hospitality and tourism event in Ethiopia and one of the biggest in Africa that took place from 8th to 11th June 2017 – the Hotel Show Africa (HSA). There, we were able to present our project and its objectives to a diverse audience.
The Hamburger Initiative für Menschenrechte (HIM) honours innovative projects, this year under the slogan Project in Africa – Alternatives to Migration. We are proud to announce that PROJECT-E has been awarded as one of two African projects in the ceremony on April 4 2017 in Hamburg, Germany.
After Germany and Austria, Switzerland just became the third country, in which PROJECT-E is registered as an association.
Our students got to visit the Castel Winery in Ziway in January to learn about growing of grapes and wine making. They were accompanied by our volunteer Iga, who captured the trip in photographs and words.
