Meet Poppy at today’s Team Thursday!
What is your background?
I am currently a third-year student studying International Development at the University of Portsmouth. My degree entails studying multiple disciplines (including economics, human geography, politics and international relations) so to examine the major global challenges of our time, including world poverty and hunger, access to education, environmental sustainability, universal education and health care, gender equality and women’s empowerment, democracy, human rights and conflict and security. I am planning to start a masters in gender policy in September 2021. I have experience in fundraising, proposal writing, research, data collection and working on essential community projects in a wide range of initiatives designed to improve livelihoods within communities in the developing world.
What is your involvement with PROJECT-E?
I am currently a Team member within the Fundraising Team: my job is to research and apply for funding opportunities.
What are you passionate about?
I am a dedicated and enthusiastic believer in equality, diversity, female empowerment, education, poverty alleviation and environmental justice. I am passionate about a grass roots approach to development by consulting with local women about their needs. I am also passionate about promoting the active participation of local women within the communities by economically engaging and empowering women to boost their self-esteem and sense of agency.
